The sons who chose Syria

World at One

Available for over a year

A 15-year-old boy from Blackburn has been sentenced to life, and must serve a minimum of five years in custody, after encouraging a man in Australia to commit an act of terrorism at a national day of remembrance, known as ANZAC Day. While politicians and the courts grapple with how to deal with those who have chosen to become jihadists - and the apparently increasing appeal of radical Islam to some young people in the West, what about their families? Mothers for Life is an organisation aimed at both providing support for those whose children have gone to fight in Syria and to stop others following them. Zubeida Malik has been speaking to two of them.
