Writer Kiran Sidhu has been talking about her experience in the Guardian. She says she had to go "underground" to grieve after the death of her mother because she felt there was nowhere she could deal with it openly in her community. She says her grief was treated as a "dirty secret' But how common is this in British Asian communities? In Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism people often set aside a certain time period to grieve a death, after which point life is expected to get back to normal. Caller Akram, who recently lost his mother and his wife has terminal cancer, shares his experience with Nihal.
