How to ensure that donating blood is safe, both to give and to receive. To mark blood donation week the programme follows the experience of one man donating blood. Every human has up to 5 litres of blood and can lose up to a third of this amount without ill effect. The programme looks at the issues of blood donation and safety in developing nations; 70 countries do not yet test blood for infection.
