Eddie Redmayne: 'I was ignorant of trans issues'

Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne has told the Today programme he was "ignorant of trans issues" before making upcoming film The Danish Girl, in which he plays a trans women. The Danish Girl tells the story of Einar, who was considered male at birth, but in 1931 transitioned to female Lili Elbe and was the first person known to have what we now call gender reassignment. Mr Redmayne spoke to presenter Nick Robinson about the process of making the film and coming to understand the challenges facing trans people.
