The Great Beer Upheaval

Global Business

Available for over a year

Small breweries are sprouting up all over the world. That is happening at the same time as a merger between two of the world’s biggest brewers takes place – meaning that a third of the world’s beer could soon be brewed by the same company. Peter Day explores the long history of beer. In the UK, in the 1970s, most of the beer drunk was brewed by just six companies. Go back 50 years before that and tiny brewers were producing most of the country’s beer and selling it to very local drinkers. So, what does the future hold? (Photo: An English pub)
