Tchaikovsky in Italy

Composers' Journeys

Available for over a year

Tchaikovsky travelled to escape his disastrous marriage to his pupil Antonina Miliukova. He did not love her. Shortly after the wedding he had an emotional collapse. His brother took him to Italy. He wrote to his wife Antonina from Venice "I can think, dream, read, remember. In a word - rest." His tour of Italy allowed him to start composing again.
