The Documentary

Available for over a year

Charles Duke, an astronaut on the Apollo 16 lunar mission, describes lift off. From an initial slow speed, with a feeling similar to a lift in a tall building, the rocket accelerated till it was 'shaking from side to side' as they reached an altitude of 35 miles and a travelling speed of 8,000 miles an hour. Originally broadcast on 4 September, 1998 Image: 10th July 1972: A shot of a full moon from the Apollo 16 mission. Most of the area shown is of the farside of the moon.
