The series kicks off with the Lindsey family from Birmingham. Sadie is a 48-year old midwife whose parents came over from Jamaica in the 1950s, when she was four. The only black child at her school, she talks about her experiences of racial abuse, and how things have changed for her children. Her daughter Janet has just got engaged to a man she met on the internet.
