Former England captain Terry Butcher has paid tribute to Don Howe, who has died aged 80, saying “He was miles ahead of his time… Football in general owes him a great debt.” Howe became one of the most well-respected coaches in the history of the English game and managed both West Bromwich Albion and Arsenal. He was capped 23 times for England. When his playing career ended, Howe became a well-respected coach and was a key figure in the backroom teams of managers Ron Greenwood, Sir Bobby Robson and Terry Venables.
