Ben Stokes' dad: Record double century is 'tremendous'

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

The dad of cricketer Ben Stokes says his son's record double century will certainly be something to talk about in the pub. Ged Stokes, of Christchurch, New Zealand, said Ben's achievement was "tremendous" and watching him play in the test against South Africa was "compelling viewing". Ben Stokes hit the fastest double century for England - the second ever fastest in history - after resuming on 74 and racing to 200 in just 163 balls. Former New Zealand rugby international Ged said Ben was using a cricket bat and hitting "really good, straight drives" from when he was in nappies. "From the day he was able to walk and carry that bat, we heard nothing but 'Do you want to play cricket?'", he said. This clip is originally from ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 5 live with Clare McDonnell on Sunday 4 January 2016.
