Abducted and enslaved by Joseph Kony - Evelyn Amony tells her story

World Update

Available for over a year

Evelyn Amony was abducted by the Ugandan rebel group known as the Lord's Resistance Army when she was only 12 years old. For nearly three decades, this rebel group has committed many atrocities, like the abduction of children, killing, maiming, and sexual slavery. Trained as a child soldier, Evelyn spent nearly 11 years inside the LRA and became a forced wife to its leader, Joseph Kony and mother to his children. Now free, she is telling her story. She has published a book with the help of her friend and colleague Dr Erin Baines, and she hopes sharing her experiences will help other war-affected women. She began by telling Dan Damon about one of her worst memories - a day where she says she survived death three times. (Photo: Evelyn Amony in Gulu, Uganda 2013 Credit: Erin Baines)
