David Bowie "an emotional liberator" - Julien Temple

The World Tonight

Available for over a year

David Bowie's musical legacy is vast and diverse -- astronauts and misfits populated the lyrics, while the music ranged from rock to poppy soul and jazz and a sort of cabaret sound. But amid all the attention paid to Bowie's music, it's easy to overlook the fact that he embraced and influenced fashion and art too. References to German expressionism and modern dance could be found in his work, which in turn, inspired a wave of wannabes. So what is the cultural legacy of this ever changing, artist and performer? Julien Temple was David Bowie's close friend and directed him in Absolute Beginners. (Photo: David Bowie fan. Copyright: Getty Images.)
