Former England cricketer Ashley Giles says his “whole world” changed after receiving the news of his wife’s brain tumour. In December 2006, Stine Giles was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Giles had just been dropped for the third Test of the Ashes tour, and when he received the news from his wife he flew home immediately and never played for England again. The tumour was successfully removed by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, yet the couple were devastated when in 2012 two more tumours were discovered. Thanks to pioneering treatment, known as TomoTherapy, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham were again able to remove the tumours. Ashley and Stine have since set up a charity called The Giles’ Trust which raises money for brain tumour research and support.
