How rap music has resurrected a Brazilian prison

Assignment

Available for over a year

Brazilian prisoners who have made a career as rappers. Assignment meets a group of black prisoners from Carandiru Prison in Sao Paulo, who have composed and published rap music. The prison was the scene of a massacre after riots in 1992 but now the centre of a musical sensation after bored black prisoners got together to compose tunes which reflected their lives as inferior members of society.
