A report on the Pakistan army and its influence In October 1999 the Pakistan Army for the fourth time overthrew a democratically elected government which resulted in additional sanctions being placed against Pakistan. This resulted in the current President, General Pervez Musharraf, coming to power, he is largely seen as a moderate who can keep Islamic fundamentalism at bay.
