Six month mechanical doping ban would not be 'long enough'

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Evie Richards believes that the minumum six-month mechanical doping ban would not be "long enough" for Belgium's Femke van den Driessche. Van den Driessche became the first rider to be caught with a motor concealed in her racing bike during the Cyclo-Cross World Championships. Richards, who recently became the under-23 women's World Champion in the same Cyclo-Cross competition, is adamant that the Belgian's punishment should be longer. "I think six months is a pretty short amount of time, it's only really a race season off the bike." Femke Van Den Driessche faces a minimum ban of six months, her case will be heard by a UCI disciplinary panel, after which she could be banned for up to four years. This clip is from 5 live Sport on Thursday 11 February 2016.
