Olympic cycling champion Victoria Pendleton has "come a long way in a short time" and has the ability to ride winners in amateur horse racing, according to award-winning trainer Paul Nicholls. Nicholls, who has won the coveted champion trainer title eight times, said that the Olympic gold medalist was "well capable of riding winners". Pendleton was due to take part in a crucial warm up race at Wincanton on Wednesday in the build up to the Cheltenham Festival. Dismissing her critics, Nicholls argued that "she's doing good for the sport. There's a certain amount of jealousy involved. Amatuers are doing it for their own enjoyment as much as anything".
