Maria Sharapova's former coach Jeff Tarango says he is "very surprised" at her admission that she failed a drugs test at the Australian Open. The Russian tennis player, 28, tested positive for Meldonium, a substance she has been taking since 2006 for health issues. Sharapova, a five-time Grand Slam champion, is provisionally suspended from 12 March pending further action. Tarango, who used to coach the former world number one, has admitted he has been shocked by the news: "I'm very surprised, it's caught all of us here in Los Angeles and I can see why she wanted to do this on her terms," he told 5 live Sport's Mark Chapman.
