What is International Women's Day for?

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Countries across the world will celebrate International Women's Day today but what does it stand for? The UN Women Deputy Executive Director, Lakshmi Puri told 5 Live the day is "a reminder and a wake up call to the world that all is not well" She added that "the economy doesn't work for women, politics doesn't work for women, society doesn't work for women, it does not provide them a level playing field, it discriminates against them and violence against women is a global pandemic" This clip is originally from Up All Night on Tuesday 8 March.
