Mickey Vann: Blackwell fight not one sided enough to stop it

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

British middleweight boxer Nick Blackwell remains in an induced coma after suffering a bleed on his brain following his fight against Chris Eubank Jr on Saturday night. The referee stopped the fight in the tenth round, on advice from the ringside doctor. Mickey Vann has refereed many great fights, including the ‘Battle of Britain’ between Lennox Lewis and Frank Bruno. He said “although [the fight] was one sided, it wasn't one sided enough that you could say that you could stop it.” He said “the only thing I would have said was instead of going to the doctor, I would have stopped it straight away.” This clip is originally from 5 live breakfast on Monday 28 March 2016.
