Why antibiotics are 'part of the business' for this Nigerian pig farmer

The Food Chain

Available for over a year

The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Stephanie Hegarty heads to Oke-Aro pig farm outside Lagos, Nigeria to visit farmer Jonathan Aganga. Jonathan explains why he often feeds his animals antibiotics, and says there's little awareness amongst farmers of how their use could contribute to a global problem of antiobiotic resistance. In Nigeria, antibiotics use on farms is expected to rise more than 160 per cent by the year 2030, compared to 2010 levels. (Photo: Jonathan Aganga on his farm)
