In 1810, Dr Henry Duncan opened the world's first savings bank, the Ruthwell Parish Bank, which is now home to the Savings Banks Museum. The 18th century building houses a collection of early home savings boxes, coins and bank notes from many parts of the world. Playwright and author, Frank Cottrell-Boyce, talks us through the Savings Bank Museum in Ruthwell, Dumfries, as part of our small museum series. (Photo: Savings jar with money inside.
