Do Asians give to receive at weddings?

Nihal

Available for over a year

We've all heard of the notebook that comes out after an Asian wedding documenting how much money a family has given to the couple, so that they can give the same amount when someone in THAT family gets married. What happened to giving what felt right or suited the couple? We're asking about this because a couple demanded more than a hundred pounds from a guest because they felt the guest was wealthy enough to give more. Is it wrong to demand more than you've spent on your wedding from your guests? Is the Asian system of giving to receive still relevant? Two callers share their stories with Nihal.
