Ron Dennis: Fernando Alonso is still the best

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

McLaren chairman Ron Dennis believes Fernando Alonso is still the best driver of this current Formula 1 era. The Spainard won two World Championships and this season he is currently 12th in the Drivers' Championship. "I think in this current era, Fernando is still the best. "It's frustrating not to be able to put him in the best engine car combination, but that’s motor racing," said the 68-year-old. Alonso joined McLaren in 2015, signing a three year deal with team, having previously driven for them in 2007. The team are currently 8th in the Constructors' Championship, following last year's reestablishment of a partnership with Honda. Since reforming the partnership their best result has been a fifth place finish in Hungary last year, scored by Alonso. This clip is originally from 5 live Sport on Wednesday 25 May 2016.
