How can you deter teenagers from smoking?

Health Check

Available for over a year

Around the world more than one in ten 13 to 15 year olds smokes cigarettes so there’s a push to deter people from starting in the first place. An American study has shown that hiding cigarettes behind the counter in shops does seem to put people off buying them. Dr Bill Shadel, who’s a senior behavioural scientist at the RAND Corporation, told Health Check’s Caitlin Sneddon why they carried out the work.
