A 'cruel' blow to Australian gymnastics

Sport Today

Available for over a year

With Australia set to host the Commonwealth Games in two years’ time, their gymnastics hopes have been hit by the news that one of its elite training bases is to shut. The Western Australia Institute of Sport has confirmed it will close its artistic gymnastics National Centre of Excellence in Perth which had been open for 28 years. The president of Gymnastics Australia Jacqui Briggs-Weatherill, speaking to Seth Bennett, believes this is an "attack on women's sport".
