We might think weeks without rain sounds a lovely proposition when we're having a summer full of it. But it wasn’t fun for everyone in 1976, when temperatures consistently topping 30 Celsius made it unbearable to work outside...and weeks & weeks without rain caused a drought and water shortage. Ricky Dorlay has worked with Hillier Nurseries in Hampshire for 52 years and says the summer of 1976 really stands out as a “torrid time”.
