'I did feel uncomfortable receiving... effectively public money to do my rowing'

Jeremy Vine

Available for over a year

Sports journalist Mike Parry views Team GB's Olympic programme as "an extension of the welfare state" and expressed his displeasure that "in an Olympic event people are brainwashed into thinking that if you come third you've done very, very well." In response, former Olympian Alex Beaver called in to share her reservations about how her training was funded. Along with Katherine Grainger she was part of the rowing team for 10 years and went to the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
