Professor Jim Hough of Glasgow University began looking for evidence of gravitational waves in 1971, and has spent his career involved in projects aiming to discover experimental proof of their existence. Finally that day came in in September of 2015 with the discovery being announced to the world in February of this year. The professor is in line for a Nobel prize for his contribution to physics and Shereen spoke to him about his beginnings in science and his journey to making this scientific breakthrough.
