The French birthplace of denim resurrects production

World Business Report

Available for over a year

The American jeans maker Levi Strauss has cemented its place in the history of denim, but the material actually originated in France. A small textile business in the city of Nimes is trying to revive an industry that thrived there in the 19th century. The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Joshua Thorpe has been to southern France to see efforts to resurrect production of denim, a textile originally known locally as Serge de Nimes.
