Keronsene leak: "We've found about a thousand dead fish"

Country Focus

Available for over a year

The Welsh Government has confirmed an investigation into the cause of a pipeline breach in Carmarthenshire which led to around 140,000 litres of kerosene being leaked into a stream and into the ground nearby. The main dual carriage way to Carmarthen - the A48 - was closed in both directions following the leak from the pipeline, owned by Valero, near the village of Nantycaws. But what will be the full envrionmental impact of this leak? Natural Resources Wales says it's in the most serious category for such incidents and that around two-thirds of the fuel has so far been recovered. But a thousand dead fish have now been found in Nant Pibwr - including many of our best known protected species. Rachael Garside speaks to Martyn Evans from NRW on the banks of the stream.
