The M25, Britain’s busiest motorway, turns 30 today and is apparently full of mysteries – in the 1970s, the body of an assassin was found buried in the concrete on a stretch of the road. That is according to author of ‘M25: A Circular Tour of the London Orbital’, Ray Hamilton, who shared his favourite M25 tales with 5 live. Satirist Richard Stilgoe was sent on top of the flyover 40 years ago to play a song he called ‘Bridge over troubled murder’, Hamilton told us. “It was far more ironic than he could even have imagined,” he said: “Kent CID received a tip off that an assassin had been buried there while the concrete was still wet”. “He’d received a dose of his own medicine,” he added.
