ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½less veteran: "You're made to feel like a number"

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Darren Thorpe found himself homeless after 22 years of service in the army. After losing his job, going through a divorce and his dad dying, he spent time sleeping in his car and said he felt like his life had fallen apart. He said he approached the council for support but felt they were going against the Military Covenant. Darren said: "When you go to somebody, who you don't know, in an office, and you say 'Look, this is me, I need help' that takes a bit of doing and then literally from the word 'go', you're made to feel like a number. There's no empathy, it's all bureaucracy." This clip is originally from Stephen Nolan on Saturday 29 October 2016.
