Fifa poppy ban is 'sensible'

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

New York Times journalist Rory Smith believes Fifa is right to turn down a request from England and Scotland for players to wear armbands featuring poppies when the sides meet in a World Cup qualifier on Armistice Day, 11 November. Smith, who does wear a poppy, says it would be a "dangerous precedent" for football’s world governing body to set if it were to allow players to wear what he describes as a "politicised symbol". This clip was first broadcast on 5 live Sport, Tuesday 1 November 2016.
