A poem written by 10-year-old Dexter for Remembrance Sunday. 'The War of Death' The innocent soldiers, honoured and grand Unwelcomed by the hostile land Give their lives for thy freedom Yet they do not know that they will seldom See their loved ones again Death spreads like poppy seeds Soldiers like unwanted weeds Torn by bullets, bayonets and lies Their blank eyes staring to the skies War rips and tears the life from the ground The loyal, firm soldiers forever bound To the pledge of war, solemn and stern The years spent in battle meaning time will not turn Their lives depend on the cruelty of war Their friends and family dead by the law War rooms around deceasing all Just as sure as men will fall In this war of treachery and horror The loved ones at home feeling sorrow For the people that will forever be remembered, child or wife As the ones that saved our life
