'Gary Kurfirst wanted a US hit. We had to de-Hip-Hop some of the songs and turn them into 'We've got armadillos in our trousers music', Spinal Tap almost.' Shaun Ryder joins Mark to talk all about the re-release of the debut Black Grape record. Black Grape was founded in 1993 by Shaun and Happy Monday's bandmate Bez, who recruited former Rap Assassin Paul 'Kermit' Leveridge, Carl 'Psycho' McCarthy, drummer Ged Lynch and guitarist Wags (formerly of Paris Angels). Their 1995 debut on Radioactive Records went straight in at number 1 and from it came three Top 20 singles - Reverend Black Grape, In the Name of the Father and Kelly's Heroes. It's been 21 years since the release of the album and Shaun's here to talk more about it.
