Alex, a man from Oxford who has been homeless on and off for 20 years, told 5 live he agrees with ‘defensive architecture’ designed to deter rough sleepers. Speaking to 5 live’s Adrian Goldberg, he said: “outside where I live, there’s a solicitor’s and they have homeless people sleeping there and it absolutely stinks.” An anti-homeless slope was recently installed on the site of a former Bank of England building in Liverpool, the latest in a trend of ‘defensive architecture’ being used across the country. The charity Crisis says the measures are “counter-productive” and “do nothing to tackle the underlying causes of homelessness”. This clip was taken from the Adrian Goldberg programme on Friday 25 November 2016.
