Online scam expert Wayne May gives advice about how to avoid becoming a victim of ‘sextortion’. It is a form blackmail in which criminals trick victims into performing sexual acts online then threaten to share the images unless they are given money. Mr May, who runs online community Scam Survivors, says his advisors have spoken to 15,000 victims in the past year. He says the following things are warning signs that you might be dealing with a scammer *What’s their language like? Someone becoming “very sexual, very quickly” is a danger sign. *What are they doing on-screen? If they are typing but you can’t see their hands tapping the keyboard, this may mean the footage is a pre-recorded video. *Call the police if you are suspicious This clip is originally from 5 live Breakfast on Wednesday 30 November 2016.
