Promising footballer 'quit after abuse'

Good Morning Wales

Available for over a year

A Welshman has told how he walked away from a promising career in football because of abuse he suffered at the hands of a coach as a child. Following the abuse, Matthew Monaghan, who captained Wales at an Under 18s and Under 16s level, went on to join Manchester United's youth team and trained with the likes of David Beckham and Ryan Giggs, before panic attacks forced him to walk away from a promising career in football. He spoke to ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Wales' Dylan Jones.
