Irish island ferry dispute risks stranding residents over winter

World Update

Available for over a year

Residents of Inis M贸r, the largest of the Aran islands, a group of three islands on the west coast of Ireland, could soon find themselves stranded if last-minute talks fail. The island has been stripped of ferry services from today (1st December) until March next year because of a dispute between Galway County Council and the ferry service provider, Island Ferries. The firm said it had no choice but to withdraw its winter service due to a failure by the council to recognise its difficulties with a levy. Dan Damon spoke to Dara Molloy, who lives on Inis M贸r.
