Christmas on the Windsor Estate

Anne Diamond

Available for over a year

It's an age old tradition for Windsor to receive a tree from Germany, but why? Dr Richard Williams, Learning Curator at Windsor Castle: "He's (Prince Albert) the one that popularises the Christmas tree in this country, and brings it from Germany. "The first person to bring it was Queen Charlotte, who was the wife of George III, and that was in the eighteenth century. "(They) decorated it with sweets, and delicacies, small candles, and coloured pieces of paper, and it was lit on Christmas eve."
