Will the European Union last?

Westminster Hour

Available for over a year

Historian and television presenter Dr David Starkey says that history will see Britain as either displaying an "unusual prescience" for voting to leave the European Union, or as the "first rat to leave the sinking ship". David Starkey backed a Leave vote during the EU referendum campaign as a member of the group 'Historians for Britain'. He told the Westminster Hour's Sam Macrory that "all attempts at creating a unity since the Roman Empire have failed" due to the "wild variation of language, political culture and historical traditions". "The glory of European is precisely its difference", he said.
