A new study suggests it is easier for stepfathers to get on with their partner’s children than stepmothers. The charities Relate and Relationships Scotland released a ‘Happy Families?’ report which shows that 65% of stepfathers reported good relationships with their stepchildren compared to just 57% of stepmothers. Speaking to us as part of the ѿý’s 100 Women season, Alison Ishmael told us about her experiences with her eight-year-old stepdaughter. Alison said: “I didn’t have children at the time, so I had to ask myself if I was ready for that sort of commitment.” “I viewed my role as someone who is part of the family, but never saw myself as a mother-replacement,” she added. This clip is originally from 5 live Breakfast on Wednesday 7 December 2016.
