Harry Potter 'Sorting Hat' spider discovered

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Scientists in India have discovered a new species of spider that looks exactly like the 'Sorting Hat' from the Harry Potter films. The spider is just 7mm long, and was found hiding among thick vegetation in India's Western Ghats Mountains. It has been named 'Eriovixia Gryffindori' after the hat's original owner, Godric Gryffindor. Harry Potter fan and lead scientist Javed Ahmed told 5 live Drive the “resemblance is uncanny.” The discovery even caught the attention of Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling and Javed said: “She is absolutely thrilled, she said she was honoured and she congratulated us.” This clip is originally from 5 live Drive on Wednesday 14 December 2016
