An oath of 'Shakespeare, Milton and Churchill'

Westminster Hour

Available for over a year

Speaking on ѿý Radio 4's Westminster Hour, Conservative MP Sir Nicholas Soames and Labour MP Gisela Stuart discussed plans to require public office holders to swear an oath of allegiance to British values. Gisela Stuart said although "there is a problem out there", she didn't think an oath of allegiance was "an answer to it.” Whereas Sir Nicholas Soames backed the suggestion, but only if the words of the oath were "meaningful" and "written by a combination of Shakespeare, Milton and Churchill."
