Former Lord Advocate, Dame Elish Angiolini

Dream Job

Available for over a year

Bryan meets Dame Elish Angiolini, formerly the Lord Advocate - Scotland's top lawyer. When she was young, Dame Elish wanted to be a ballet dancer, but sadly this didn't work out! Because of this, Dame Elish has plenty to say about why it's important to have a variety of dream jobs to pursue, and why it's not a disaster if you don't succeed at everything. She also tells Bryan about her childhood in Govan and how arguing and debating with her brothers and sisters led her to think that a career as a lawyer might be for her. Dame Elish recounts her own, very early, experience of being a witness in a court case and how that led her to think of ways in which being in a courtroom could be made less scary. Bringing her career up to date, Dame Elish tells Bryan about her new job, as principal of St Hugh's College in Oxford, and offers advice about how to get into the world's top university!
