A mother and her daughter are celebrating beating cancer after both completing their different life-saving treatments on the same day. Ruby Connar, now 13, was diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of eight and her mother, Josie, was told to prepare for the worst. While Ruby underwent aggressive chemotherapy treatment, Josie was diagnosed with breast cancer. On the date when Ruby finished her last round of chemotherapy, Josie had a double mastectomy, signalling the end of their respective treatments. Josie is now in remission while Ruby has been given the all-clear. She said: 鈥淚 decided I wasn鈥檛 going to tell Ruby because I thought I would have the lump removed, and life would go on, because Ruby was my focus. 鈥淏ut when I was told I needed operations and chemotherapy, I had to sit her down and tell her.鈥 鈥淭he most awful thing was that I wasn鈥檛 going to be there for Ruby - I was in the oncology ward for adults at one end of the hospital, and Ruby was undergoing chemotherapy at the other end,鈥 she added.
