There鈥檚 a reason the price of fish is on the rise that is bad news for the squeamish: it is down to an infestation of sea lice. The parasites are 1.5cm long and are spread by being blown across the surface of the water before feeding on the blood of fish. They have caused wholesale prices to rise by as much as 50% in the last year. Lance Forman, owner of a smoked salmon curers that supplies several major supermarkets, said there is a 鈥済lobal shortage of salmon this year鈥. 鈥淭he cost of salmon we鈥檝e had to buy is 100% more than it was last year 鈥 it鈥檚 been a real struggle,鈥 he added.
