A worn-out jeweller's carpet has been found to be worth over thirteen thousand pounds after collecting flecks of platinum, gold and diamonds for over 15 years. Georgie Mabbs of Arum Jewellers of Jersey told 5 live: “We thought we had idea of how much money we were going to get from the carpet but we were absolutely staggered.” The precious metal and stone fragments were collected by a specialist company in London who burned the carpet to remove them. Arum Jewellers donated the money raised from the carpet to a local charity after a competition to guess its value. The total value was estimated at £13,346.
