Brexit 'should end with the people'

Westminster Hour

Available for over a year

Lynne Featherstone insists that a second referendum should be held on the final terms of the government’s Brexit deal. Speaking to the Westminster Hour’s Carolyn Quinn, the Liberal Democrat peer refused to rule out voting to block Brexit, and insisted it was her “duty to stand up for what we believe is in the best interests of the country.” Asked whether she could give assurances that Liberal Democrat peers would not attempt to block Brexit, Baroness Featherstone replied: “No, absolutely I can’t… we will take common cause with anyone’s amendments who we think are a good idea.” Responding to accusations by Conservative MP Bill Cash that the House of Lords would be “committing political suicide” if peers voted to block Brexit, Baroness Featherstone replied: “Well, there, there, there. Of course. Every time the Lords does anything that the government doesn’t like they say ‘off with their heads’.”
